Medfest 2014 organising committee

Alex Langford - lead

Alex was awarded Lead when all 7 superior candidates were simultaneously injured in freak accidents. He dabbled in general medicine and also studied psychology before settling down in the world of psychiatry, and is currently a CT2 in SLAM. The public perception of psychiatry, evidence based medicine and parity of esteem between mental and physical health are particular interests. He would sell his soul to be able to bowl decent leg spin.

Nduka "Duke" Nzekwue - co-lead

Hello reader and hopefully Medfest attendee, my name is Nduka Nzekwue, a CT1 originally from South East London, having studied at Barts and spent Foundation years in the East Midlands. Medfest represents an enthralling challenge and I hope I do it justice as one of the two co-leads. I very much look forward to bringing “Cradle to Grave” to life and continuing the pioneering work of my Medfest predecessors. Medfest: The International Medical Film Festival.
Daniel Meek - co-lead

Daniel qualified from Newcastle University and is currently a CT1 based in South East London.  When not working or watching films he enjoys travelling, playing sport, reading and hopelessly trying to learn foreign languages (currently Portuguese) whilst commuting around London.

Alex Blackman - secretary

Alex is a CT1 in General Adult Psychiatry at Bethlem hospital, recently moved from deepest darkest Devon. Combining her two greatest loves (and borderline obsessions) psychiatry and films – Medfest seemed like a brilliant way to spend the year. She looks after the website so address any comments/complaints her way. In her spare time amongst other things she’s a keen fencer (so don’t make the complaints too harsh!)

Karina Beinerte - International lead

Having started off in Latvia and spent a year in China, Karina has finally ended up training in psychiatry in South East London. But little do her colleagues know that during weekends she lives a secret double life working as a Production Designer on short films. As Medfest has realised it would be selfish to keep this amazing festival only in UK, Karina's role is to help sharing it with the rest of the world.

(Catherine) Louise Murphy - art lead

Louise graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2007 (yes she is that old) and is currently an ST5 in General Adult Psychiatry in South London.  Currently, she spends her days in group therapy. Since moving to London she has developed an interest in the finer things in life- cinema, art and photography and she is looking forward to putting on the first Medfest art exhibition in 2014.

Helen Hutchings - assistant art lead

Helen graduated from Cardiff and spent her foundation years in Suffolk. Now she is loving being a CT1 in the bright lights of London. In her free time she can usually be found running around on a hockey pitch or at a Norwich City FC match. When not enjoying the great outdoors she also loves films, reading and discovering new music.

Kathleen Levick - music lead

Kat is a CT3 in South London having arrived into psychiatry via a circuitous route with time in medicine, as well as some time away, doing photography among other things. Outside work, she enjoys galleries, reading, travelling, movies (especially horror!), listening to music, especially live, especially if it has horns, and is slowly learning to play bass guitar on her beautiful new acoustic bass!

This is Kat's second year being involved with Medfest: music and she's excited to take the helm as music lead this year.

Welcome to Medfest 2014
