Medfest was founded in 2011 by Dr Kamran Ahmed, as the UK's first Medical Film Festival. It is run by a group of trainee psychiatrists and is supported by the Public Education Committee of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Our first festival, run in 2011, explored "The Image of Doctors in Film". Medfest was warmly received at 9 Universities throughout the country, with the notable honour of a review in The Lancet:

In 2012, Medfest expanded to include 16 universities, hosting more than 1000 attendees across the UK. The theme "Healthscreen" explored the public understanding of illness through film, showcasing documentaries, shorts and Hollywood clips. Again, the festival received local and national acclaim.
Medfest continued to grow, and 2013 built on the success of its first two years. The theme for 2013 was "The Power of Medicine", and reached 21 universities across the country. It culminated in a showcase event at the Royal Society of Medicine.
